In short

At Diba Clinics in Rotterdam, laser hair removal on your underarms costs € 50 per session for women and € 60 for men. Underarms and extended bikini line together are Package A, for € 75. A session takes about ten minutes, and usually six to eight sessions are needed, with four to six weeks in between. The laser specialists and skin therapists work with the GentleMax Pro, for every skin type.

This area

Why underarms are the area people start with.

Underarm hair is dark and thick, and the skin beneath it is light. That is exactly the combination a laser works on: the root absorbs the light, the skin around it does not. That is why with underarms you often see less growing back after just two or three sessions, and why it is the area we most often start with for someone who is new to laser. You soon notice whether it works for you, and it costs little.

The underarm is also one of the areas where shaving works against you most: irritation, dark shadow, ingrown hairs. After a course of laser that usually disappears too, simply because there is less hair to grow in.

The underarm, with goggles on

Good to know

What you feel.

A short warm tap with a cold burst around it, ten to twenty times per underarm. The skin of the underarm is thin and there are nerves just beneath it, so you feel it more than on your lower leg and less than on your upper lip. It is over before you have got used to it.

Good to know

Who it works for and who it doesn't.

The GentleMax Pro has two wavelengths. One for light to olive skin, the other for dark skin, where the pigment in the skin itself must not heat up as well. That is why the therapist sets the device to your skin type and not to a standard setting.

Blond, grey and red underarm hair has too little pigment for the laser. Then electrolysis is the treatment, hair by hair. We tell you that at the intake, not after three sessions.

If you have excess hair from PCOS or another hormonal cause, hair growth drops sharply, but your body keeps making new hairs. In that case, count on a maintenance session every six months or every year.

Good to know

How a session goes.

You shave your underarms the day before or that same morning. No plucking, waxing or bleaching in the four weeks before, because the root needs to still be there. At the clinic the therapist cleanses the skin, you are given goggles, and the laser passes over the underarm in strips. Just before each pulse, a coolant goes onto the skin. After ten minutes you are done.

The whole course

What it costs in total.

A course is not a subscription: you book and pay per session. This is what it adds up to if you do the whole course.

  • Underarms 7 sessions€ 350

If you also want the bikini line done, Package A is cheaper than the two areas separately. That is € 75 per session instead of € 180, and over the whole course that saves € 735.

After the treatment

Aftercare,
for this zone.

  • No deodorant on the day of the treatment; the skin is open and alcohol stings.
  • No sport, sauna or tight clothing that rubs until the next day.
  • Sun is rarely a problem for underarms, but a sunbed in the week before or after is.
  • Between sessions, only shave. Hairs that fall out after a week are treated hairs letting go; that is the intention.
Frequently asked questions

What people ask about this area.

Yes. On the day itself you come without deodorant, that is all. Laser does not reduce excessive sweating; it is not a treatment for that.

Yes, you can always shave. Not plucking, waxing or depilatory cream, because they remove the root the laser needs.

After the first session, treated hairs fall out within one to two weeks. After two or three sessions, noticeably less grows back. The full result takes the whole course.

Yes, with the right wavelength and setting. The therapist determines your skin type at the intake and, if in doubt, does a test patch first.

No. Laser hair removal does not fall under the skin therapy that insurers cover, except in specific medical situations. We discuss that at the intake.

The first step

Every course starts with a measurement.

Every course starts with an intake. In it, the therapist determines your skin type, looks at the colour and thickness of your hair, and you hear how many sessions are realistic. If it is not going to work, you hear that there.
