Laser hair removal
in Rotterdam

We work with the GentleMax Pro, a laser system for safe and effective hair removal. Below you find the packages and the single areas, for women and for men.

How many treatments you need differs per person. That depends on your skin type, your hair colour and thickness, the area and the growth phase of the hairs. Because not all hairs are in the same growth phase at once, several sessions are needed.

During the programme we assess the progress, and can estimate better and better how many sessions you need.

In short

At Diba Clinics in Rotterdam, laser hair removal is done by the laser specialists and skin therapists, with the GentleMax Pro, for every skin type from I to VI. Single zones cost from € 20 per session, the face with neck € 99, and everything except the face, The Ultimate for women, € 349. Usually six to ten sessions are needed, depending on your skin type, your hair colour and the zone.

What it does

Where it lands

The laser aims at the pigment in the hair root, and that sits deep. What absorbs the energy heats up, the rest does not. That is why the laser works precisely, and why the therapist sets it to your skin type. One session reaches only the hairs growing at that moment, and that is never all of them at once.

What sets the number
of sessions

Nobody can tell you beforehand how many sessions you need, and anyone who does is guessing. These four things decide it. At the intake the therapist makes a first estimate, and during the series it gets sharper.

  • Have your skin type

We establish your skin type on the Fitzpatrick scale, from I to VI. From that follows which wavelength is most suitable, alexandrite or Nd:YAG, and which settings we work with.

  • The colour and thickness of your hair

The laser targets the pigment in the hair root. Dark, thick hair absorbs the energy best. White, grey and red hairs hold too little suitable pigment, and then lasering usually does not work.

  • The area

Hair growth differs per area. Hair on the upper lip comes back faster than hair on a lower leg, so the number of sessions and the time between them differ per area.

  • Your hormones

With a hormonal cause such as PCOS your body keeps making new hairs. The existing growth decreases sharply, but maintenance treatments remain necessary.

Laser hair removal, during the treatment

In the appointment

What you notice in the chair

The area is shaved if that has not been done, because the laser has to reach the root and not the hair above it. Then goggles go on and the therapist works through the area in strips.

Every pulse feels like a warm tap, with a cold burst right around it. On your upper lip and along your bikini line you feel more than on your legs; that is the same everywhere and it passes quickly.

Afterwards the area is red and warm for a few hours. Sauna, exercise and sun you leave alone that day, and sun protection belongs to the programme afterwards, not after it.

The treatment is done by our laser specialists and skin therapists. The clinic is on the north side of Rotterdam, away from the bustle of the centre. You park in the street rather than in a garage.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions do you need?

That depends on the area, your hair type and your hormone balance. Count on a series with weeks in between, because one session only hits the hairs growing at that moment. At the intake you hear what is realistic for you.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Most of the hair that has been treated does not come back. What your body makes new afterwards does: with a hormonal cause such as PCOS, and in men well into their thirties. That is why an occasional maintenance session, once a year or every two years, is common.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Less than waxing. Every pulse feels like a warm tap, with a cold burst right around it. On your upper lip and along your bikini line you feel more than on your legs; that is the same everywhere and it passes quickly.

Do I need to shave before laser hair removal?

Yes, the day before or the same morning. No longer than stubble: longer hair burns at the surface, and that hurts without achieving anything. Between sessions you can always shave. Not plucking, waxing or depilatory cream, because they remove the root the laser needs.

What happens after one laser session?

The area is red and warm for a few hours, sometimes with bumps around the follicles. Within one to two weeks the treated hairs fall out; that is the intention. One session only hits the hairs growing at that moment, so some hair still grows back afterwards. After two or three sessions, noticeably less.

When do you see a difference?

After the first sessions most people notice the coarser hair thinning. Full reduction takes the whole series; stopping halfway gives the result of half a series and not half the result.

Is laser safe for darker skin?

The GentleMax Pro works on Fitzpatrick I to VI. Your skin type decides not whether it is possible, but with which energy and cooling it is done. That is tuned per type.

What are the downsides of laser hair removal?

It is always a series with weeks in between, because hairs grow in phases. On white, grey and red hairs it usually does not work: they hold too little pigment. After a session the area is red for a few hours, sometimes with bumps. Throughout the programme you apply SPF 50 to whatever is exposed to the sun, and with tanned skin we book it for later. With a hormonal cause such as PCOS, maintenance sessions remain necessary.

Is laser hair removal covered by insurance?

Usually not. For hair growth on the face, for example with PCOS, it sometimes is: from supplementary insurance and with a referral. It differs per insurer and per policy. The insurance pages list it per insurer, and at the intake we work it out with you.

What does laser hair removal cost?

That depends on the area and on which price list applies: for the same area the amount differs between women and men. The packages and every single area are at the top of this page with their rate, so you know what a session costs before you book.

How much does full-body laser hair removal cost?

For women it is The Ultimate, everything except the face: € 349 per session. The face including the neck costs € 99 per session. For men it is Package 5, full body: € 500 per session. You will hear at the consult how many sessions you need.

Next step

You hear how many sessions at the consult

At the consultation the therapist establishes your skin type, looks at your hair and the area, and says how many sessions are realistically needed and what that costs. If it does not fit, you hear that too.
