What helps against hair loss
and thinning hair?
That depends on the cause. We treat hereditary hair loss on the scalp, with XL Hair and HAIRestart; with bald patches or an inflamed scalp you see a doctor first.
Hair grows in cycles, so you only see what helps after months. Where the follicle has gone, no hair comes back, and we say so beforehand.

At Diba Clinics in Rotterdam we treat hereditary hair loss and thinning hair with XL Hair, scalp mesotherapy: six treatments for men for € 800 and eight for women for € 1,000, including products. HAIRestart, laser on the scalp for early hair thinning, costs € 100 per session. Round bald patches and hair loss with itching, flaking or pain belong with your GP or dermatologist.
Gradually thinner,
or suddenly bald?
How it started and where you see it decides whether it is treated here or belongs with a doctor.
Receding temples and a thinner crown
hereditary hair loss in men- How you recognise it yourself
- Is it happening gradually, over years, and do you mainly see it at your temples and on your crown?
- What it is
- Hereditary hair loss. The hair follicles gradually become less active and make thinner hair.
- What we do
- XL Hair: scalp mesotherapy in six treatments, optionally with HAIRestart. Where the follicle has gone, no hair comes back.
Zes behandelingen XL Hair kosten € 800, inclusief producten, of € 1,100 met HAIRestart erbij.
A wider parting and less volume on top
hereditary hair loss in women- How you recognise it yourself
- Is your parting gradually getting wider, while your hairline at the front stays where it is?
- What it is
- Hereditary hair loss. In women the hair on top usually gets thinner across the whole width.
- What we do
- XL Hair in eight treatments. If you also have an irregular period, acne along your jawline or hair on your chin, see your GP first: we do not treat hair loss caused by PCOS.
Acht behandelingen XL Hair kosten € 1,000, inclusief producten, of € 1,300 met HAIRestart erbij.
Suddenly much more hair in your brush
temporary hair loss- How you recognise it yourself
- Did it come suddenly, a few months after such an event, and is it falling out all over your head?
- What it is
- Temporary hair loss after a major event. It usually recovers by itself.
- What we do
- Looking at and recording how your scalp is doing now, so there is something to compare later. If it lasts longer than six months, it goes to your GP for a blood test. No XL Hair while breastfeeding.
Treating usually makes no sense now, recording does. A skin consultation costs € 50.
Round, smooth bald patches
bald patches- How you recognise it yourself
- Are the patches round and smooth, and did they appear suddenly?
- What it is
- A different form of hair loss from the hereditary kind, with its own cause and its own treatment.
- What we do
- Nothing. We do not treat this; see your GP or dermatologist. HAIRestart does not work here either: where the follicle has disappeared, there is nothing to restart.
This belongs with your GP or dermatologist, who will refer you on if needed.
Hair loss with itching, flaking or pain
irritated or inflamed scalp- How you recognise it yourself
- Does your scalp itch or flake, or does it hurt?
- What it is
- A scalp that is inflamed or irritated. Then the cause comes first.
- What we do
- No treatment on an inflamed scalp. See your GP or dermatologist.
This belongs with your GP or dermatologist, who will refer you on if needed.

Frequently asked questions
What helps against hair loss in women?
With hereditary hair loss, a wider parting and less volume on top, XL Hair at Diba Clinics in Rotterdam is a series of eight treatments for € 1,000 including products, or € 1,300 with HAIRestart added. If you also have an irregular period, acne along your jawline or hair on your chin, see your GP first, because we do not treat hair loss caused by PCOS.
What should you do if you suddenly lose a lot of hair?
It is usually temporary hair loss, two to three months after giving birth, a fever, an operation, a strict diet or stress, and it recovers by itself. If it lasts longer than six months, see your GP for a blood test.
Does a laser treatment help against hair loss?
With early hair thinning HAIRestart can help: laser on the scalp aimed at the follicles that are still there but have become less active. It does not work on bald patches, because where the follicle has disappeared, there is nothing to restart.
Which doctor specialises in hair loss?
A dermatologist; you get there through your GP. With bald patches, an inflamed scalp or hair loss caused by PCOS, that is the right route. Hereditary hair loss you can have treated with us, without a referral.
When do I see a difference?
Count on months. Hair grows in cycles, and the programme follows those cycles. What you build up you have to keep up, otherwise it goes back again.
What does a hair loss treatment cost?
XL Hair costs € 800 for men for six treatments or € 1,100 with HAIRestart, and € 1,000 for women for eight treatments or € 1,300 with HAIRestart; the products are included. A single HAIRestart treatment costs € 100. A skin consultation costs € 50; if you are treated in the same appointment, the consultation fee is waived.
Looking first what is going on.
With hair loss it starts with recording how your scalp is doing now. If it turns out to be something for a doctor, you hear that straight away.
