At Diba Clinics in Rotterdam, facial laser hair removal for women costs € 30 per session for the upper lip, € 60 for upper lip and chin and € 125 for the whole face; for men that is € 35, € 75 and € 150. A session takes ten to twenty minutes. Usually eight to ten sessions are needed, with four weeks in between, and with a hormonal cause, maintenance afterwards. The laser specialists and skin therapists work with the GentleMax Pro, for every skin type.
Why the face is different from the rest of your body.
Facial hair grows faster and is most strongly influenced by hormones. That is why there are only four weeks between sessions, and why most people need more of them than for their legs. It is also the area where the most is at stake: you see it in the mirror every day, and plucking or waxing makes it worse over time, with ingrown hairs and small dark spots.
There is one thing you need to know beforehand. Laser works on dark hair. The light vellus hair everyone has on their cheeks and jawline does not respond, and with too high a setting on vellus hair it can, in rare cases, actually lead to more hair. That is why we do not treat vellus hair, not even if you ask for it. What we treat is the dark, coarse hair on the upper lip, chin, under the chin and neck.

Excess hair from PCOS or hormones.
A large share of the women who come for their face have PCOS or another hormonal cause. In that case: laser removes the hair that is there, but your body keeps making new hair. Growth drops sharply and what comes back is thinner and lighter, but maintenance remains necessary. That is not the treatment failing; that is how it works.
We recommend also discussing the hormonal side with your GP or gynaecologist; we work alongside that, not instead of it.
What you feel.
The upper lip is the most sensitive spot on the body for laser: a sharp tap, and your eyes water for a moment. It takes two minutes. Chin and neck are milder. Every pulse is cooled immediately.
Who it works for and who it doesn't.
Dark hair on any skin colour: yes, with the right wavelength. Light vellus hair: no. Grey or white hair on the chin: no, that is what electrolysis is for. If you are using isotretinoin or stopped it less than six months ago, we wait. If you have a cold sore, we postpone treatment of the upper lip.

What people ask about this area.
Shaving or trimming is always fine, and shaving doesn't make the hair thicker. Plucking or waxing makes it worse in the long run, with ingrown hairs and dark spots. It becomes permanently less with laser hair removal for dark hair and electrolysis for grey, white or light hair. With a hormonal cause the growth decreases sharply, but maintenance remains necessary.
No. Only shave or trim. Plucking removes the root the laser targets. Shaving does not make hair thicker; that is a myth.
