What salmon DNA
does to your skin
The pen starts the repair of your skin, and the salmon DNA travels through the channels to the layer where that repair happens.
Salmon DNA is the name that stuck for polynucleotides: long chains of purified DNA, obtained from salmon. In the skin they give cells building blocks to repair themselves, and they hold on to moisture. That is why they are used for skin that feels dry, has lost elasticity or recovers more slowly after a treatment.
Rubbing it on your skin does little, because the outer layer holds back molecules this large. That is why we combine it with microneedling. The pen makes a great many small channels into the upper dermis, and the product lying on your skin travels inwards through them. The needling itself starts the production of new collagen; the salmon DNA supports that repair.
So you do not see the result after one session. For the first days you are red. What changes after that, in moisture, in fine lines and in how even your skin looks, builds up over weeks. It is clearest after a series of three to six treatments, with four to six weeks in between.

Mesohyal X-DNA

Salmon DNA is not a brand but an active ingredient. The product behind it decides what goes into your skin.
We work with mesohyal X-DNA by Mesoestetic, the brand whose Cosmelan and Dermamelan we also use. It is a sterile solution with two active ingredients: polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid, 2.5 milligrams per millilitre. The polynucleotides support repair, the hyaluronic acid attracts moisture and holds on to it.
You come across the ingredient under several names. Polynucleotides and PDRN are both purified DNA from salmon; PDRN consists of shorter pieces, polynucleotides of longer chains. Mesohyal X-DNA contains the longer form. Anyone searching for salmon DNA, PN or PDRN is looking for the same family of ingredients, but not always for the same product.
Salmon DNA can also be placed with an injection, as a skin booster. With us it goes with the SkinPen or the Dermapen 4: the product lies on the skin and the pen takes it inwards. So you get no injections, and the microneedling does work of its own. Which pen you get depends on your skin and the area.

Salmon DNA works in a series, just like ordinary microneedling. If you compare rates, calculate with the amount per session times the number of sessions. How many it will be for you, you hear after the intake; we do not promise a fixed number in advance.

Then you book a treatment on advice. We reserve at most two hours for that: the intake, and then at least an hour to treat. If treating is safe at that moment and you want it, we do the first salmon DNA treatment in the same appointment.
What the intake costs
If you are treated in the same appointment, the intake fee is waived and you pay only for the treatment. If the treatment does not go ahead, the intake costs € 50. A separate intake without treatment lasts at most 30 minutes and always costs € 50.

Salmon DNA works on the quality of your skin: repair, moisture and a finer texture. For volume, deep scars and pigmentation from the sun there is a different answer.

Does a salmon DNA treatment hurt?
It is manageable. Beforehand a numbing cream goes on that takes half an hour to work. What you feel after that is mostly vibration and pressure from the pen, strongest where the skin lies thin over bone, such as on your forehead.
How long am I red after salmon DNA?
One to three days, roughly like a strong sun flush. For the first twenty-four hours you leave your skin alone: no make-up and no exercise that makes you sweat heavily.
How many salmon DNA treatments do I need?
Usually three to six, with four to six weeks in between. How many it will be for you depends on your skin and on how it reacts. We look at that along the way, and we do not promise a fixed number in advance.
When do I see results from salmon DNA?
Not after the first time; what you see then is redness and a little swelling. The repair and the new collagen build up over weeks, so you see the difference over the course of the series, and most clearly a few months after the last treatment.
What is the difference with ordinary microneedling?
The pen and the procedure are the same. The difference is the product that is added: polynucleotides and hyaluronic acid, which support repair and moisture in your skin. Ordinary microneedling is the more obvious choice for scars and texture, salmon DNA for skin that lacks moisture and the ability to recover.
Can I have salmon DNA if I am allergic to fish?
Tell us beforehand in any case. The product is made from purified salmon DNA, and with a fish allergy we would rather choose a different treatment.
Is salmon DNA possible during pregnancy?
No, then we wait. During pregnancy and while you are breastfeeding we do not do microneedling, because the research is lacking to say that it is safe. That applies to salmon DNA too.
