What dermaplaning
does to your skin
It is the simplest treatment in the clinic: a sterile blade, skin pulled taut and a fixed angle. No current, light or heat is involved.
The outer layer of your skin consists of dead cells that come away on their own, but not always smoothly. Among them sit the fine, light hairs almost everyone has on their face. Together they make the surface rougher than it needs to be, and make-up catches in it rather than going on smoothly.
In dermaplaning the therapist pulls your skin taut and the blade passes over it in short strokes, at an angle of 45 degrees. It does not cut into the skin but scrapes across the surface. What comes off are dead cells from the horny layer and the fine hairs caught in them; what stays is living skin.
Because no acid is involved, it also suits sensitive, dry or allergy-prone skin, and pregnancy. It does not hurt. The strangest part is the sound: a soft scraping you feel in your jaw more than on your skin.

Does the hair grow back

It is the question almost everyone asks, and the answer is no. Below is why.
Shaving and dermaplaning do not change the hair shaft, only the end. A hair that has never been cut has a thin, soft tip. After cutting, that tip is flat, and a flat end feels coarser for the first few days. That is what people mistake for thicker hair.
The hair grows back as it was: just as fine and just as light. It does not get darker and it does not come back faster. Those who like it come back roughly monthly, because in that time the layer of dead cells has built up again and the hairs are back.
If you want rid of the hairs instead of keeping them in check, this is the wrong treatment. For dark hair that is laser hair removal; for light, grey or white hair the laser cannot see, that is electrolysis.

Then you book a treatment on advice. We reserve at most two hours for that: the intake, and then at least an hour to treat. If treating is safe at that moment and you want it, we do the dermaplaning in the same appointment.
What the intake costs
If you are treated in the same appointment, the intake fee is waived and you pay only for the treatment. If the treatment does not go ahead, the intake costs € 50. A separate intake without treatment lasts at most 30 minutes and always costs € 50.

What helps and what we advise against
Dermaplaning works on the outer layer. For what sits deeper, and for hair that should stay gone, there is a different treatment.

- A difference that lasts. The effect holds until the layer of dead cells has built up again, usually a few weeks

Why does my cream absorb better afterwards?
Because the layer of dead cells that otherwise sits in between is gone. That effect is temporary and lasts as long as that layer has not rebuilt.
