Dermamelan

Dermamelan, Mesoestetic
- How deep
- Epidermis
- How long
- 60 minutes
- Recovery
- Peeling and redness in the first days, and months of strict sun protection.
- How often
- One programme of about six months
The more intensive approach to pigmentation, usually for melasma. Six months, with a strict routine at home.
The difference from Cosmelan, when it is best to start and what the programme costs with us is on Cosmelan and Dermamelan in Rotterdam.
Where it lands
Dermamelan works like Cosmelan but stronger, and is used more often for melasma: pigment that reacts to hormones and heat and that can come back after every summer. The mask slows the pigment production; in the months after, the products at home hold that in place. With melasma that last part is the difference between a result and disappointment.

What happens
Acts on
The stratum corneum
The treatment works on the outer layer of dead skin cells; the deeper layers are not treated in the same way.
- Stratum corneumThe outer layer of dead cells. What happens here shows quickly and heals quickly.Passes through here
- EpidermisWhere your pigment sits and where new skin cells come from.It works here
- Upper dermisThis is where the connective tissue starts. What you reach here heals by building.Does not reach here
- Deep dermisHair roots, vessels and the firmness of your skin. Working this deep needs a reason.Does not reach here
Every treatment starts with cleansing, and that is done by hand. Make-up and sebum come off and the therapist checks that everything is gone, because a device or an active ingredient that works on a layer never reaches your skin.
What you notice in the chair
The appointment itself is short: the mask goes on and you take it home, where you remove it after the agreed number of hours.
Then the routine at home follows, with a stricter schedule than with Cosmelan. Melasma returns as soon as the approach loosens.
Peeling starts after a few days. So do not schedule the start just before a holiday or an important date.
What this treatment is meant for
On the left where this treatment works well, on the right when another treatment does more for you.
- Works on melasma, known as the hardest kind of pigment to settle
- Slows production rather than only removing what is already there
- Runs for months, with check-ups along the way
- Does not remove melasma for good; it remains something that can come back
- Does not work without the schedule at home and without daily sun protection
- Is not the first choice for separate pigment spots from the sun; there Cosmelan is lighter and enough
